This comprehensive project for the Argentine scientific journals has been approved by CONICET `s Board on May 22, 2001. Its background is the formation of the Argentine Scientific Journals Basic Core and the establishment of a Scientific Advisory Committee (Res. 2385/05 and Res. 1971/10). Currently, the development of this initiative is being analyzed by the CONICET Board.

 

Its main objectives are:

 

To promote the existence of a group of Argentine scientific journals that, in addition to fullfill international requirements in editorial quality, meet outstanding merits from the academic perspective on the various fields of knowledge.

 

To provide the authors, subsidy agencies, evaluators, researchers, libraries, services for the acquisition of publications and international databases, with a list of journals peer reviewed and accepted by its excellence.

 

To select journals to integrate them to SciELO Argentina.

 

 

To join in the Journals Basic Core, publications must fullfil certain requirements and be evaluated by the Scientific Advisory Committee composed of researchers, technologists, editors and professors from prestigious universities, designated by the Board of CONICET, to represent the different areas of knowledge.

 

The Basic Core of Scientific Journals covers serials from all disciplines. The journals submitted for evaluation must be a minimum of three years of uninterrupted periodical schedule. Once accepted to join the Basic Core, accreditation is valid for three years, after which the journal must be revalidated, with a new submission to peer review.
