Whithin the scope of the Culture Secretariat of Argentina a working group designed to foster the creation of a Federal System of Libraries and Documentation Centers, was created in 2008. This initiative aims to promote a comprehensive federal policy aimed to coordinate the development of subsystems and public and private networks of Libraries, Documentation and Information Centers, in order to help democratizing the access to information and knowledge generation .


As a result of the work done in the first stage of activities, in 2010 the Secretariat of Culture of the Nation has begun to develop a proposal for the establishment of a formal Advisory Committee on the themes of work of this team to strengthen implementation of its goals. This Commission shall gather institutions that, like the CAICYT, that have participated in the working group since its inception, developing a proposal which will be submited to the President of the Nation. Thus, the Argentine Center of Scientific and Technological Information is part of a large group of analysis and advice to national level for a central workspace to the justified concerns of CAICYT.
